Nya regler för sfi 2026 – bli klar på 3 år

Från och med 1 januari 2026 gäller nya nationella regler för sfi. Med de nya reglerna har du rätt att studera sfi i maximalt tre år. Det blir viktigt att planera dina studier och använda de möjligheter till stöd som finns, för att nå dina mål i tid.
De nya reglerna gäller även dig som har studerat innan den 1 januari 2026 även om du inte studerar sfi just nu. För dig räknas 1 januari 2026 som startdatum och då har du 3 år på dig att bli klar med sfi.
Om du inte är klar med dina studier efter tre år går det att ansöka om en förlängning men du kan bara få en förlängning om du har särskilda skäl.

New SFI rules from 2026 – complete within 3 years
From 1 January 2026, new national regulations for Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) will apply. Under these rules, you are entitled to study SFI for a maximum of three years. This makes it important to plan your studies carefully and make use of the available support, so that you can reach your goals on time.
The new rules also apply to those who have studied before 1 January 2026, even if you are not currently studying SFI. In that case, 1 January 2026 will be counted as your start date, and you will have three years from that date to complete SFI.
If you have not completed your studies after three years, you may apply for an extension. However, an extension can only be granted if you have special reasons.
